I have mixed feelings regarding this course because of several reasons. First, I am quite nervous for this course is a practicum in teaching beginning reading so of course it will not be that easy. Although I had just finished my other practicum course last semester but this one is in another level. I’ll be handling a class size of 25 and as far as my memory is concerned, the last time that I handled a large class was when I had my practice teaching back in 2010 during my fourth year in college. Yes, I am currently teaching right now but the maximum number of students that I hold is 10.
Second, I am excited to know new things especially about teaching reading to children. Well, in fact I already have learned something even in the first day of our meeting. I realized that if I just open myself and give this aura of approachability, building a rapport with a student is quite easier. Honestly, I don’t quite smile a lot to students in our school because the moment that I do smile everytime, my students forget the gap between us. It’s not that I want to put myself away from them. Actually, I play with them twice a week in the afternoon every after class and from what I see; they enjoy it very much because of the fact that I rarely mingle with them.
Lastly, I feel discombobulated a little bit because of the many things that this course requires us to accomplish. However, though I feel this way I am quite sure that I know what to do already. I just have to give time and do my best to do things systematically.
